Cartier Diamond Clip Brooch Up For Auction…
The brooch is geometric in design, classic Art Deco in style, and set with brilliant-cut and baguette diamonds. Signed Cartier, this sparkling diamond clip comes with a fitted case stamped Cartier. It is to be offered for sale at Sotheby’s London on 7 June.
Diamonds With A Public Past And A Future Public Role
This diamond clip brooch was designed and made in 1937 by Cartier and has a fascinating story to tell. First sold in 1939 It was purchased in 1986 by a close friend of Margaret Thatcher for her to wear, and Cartier London also provided a letter giving the owner of the brooch permission to select jewellery for the Prime Minister (of Great Britain) to use.
Mrs Thatcher was wearing the brooch on a number of public and historic occasions, including on the day she offered her resignation to the Queen, and also when she announced her decision to leave the House of Commons in 1991.
A Special Diamond Clip Brooch – With Future Benefits
Prince William, Duchess Catherine and Prince Harry will have a hand in the use of the proceeds of the sale of the diamond clip, as the proceeds will go to the Endeavour Fund. This is a charity created by the Royal Foundation that helps servicemen and women recovering from mental and physical injuries with hands-on support, mentoring and advice.
