Cathy Waterman’s rings have an other-worldly magical feel. Inspired by nature and natural forms, they’re colourful, often romantic, sometimes bold and always singular and individual in character. In fact each ring seems to have a personality of its own.
The world of fantasy seems close, and the romanticised version of Renaissance and medieval history. These things have always hovered in the background when looking at her rings… and then I read an interview she gave to White Bird Fine Jewellery. It was after a career in film production that Cathy Waterman began to create jewelry based on her love of nature and fairytales! She says:
The first pieces I designed were a collection of jewels that were 22k gold and inspired by history and my love for castles and crowns and were hammered and set with princess cut diamonds, sapphires and rubies. They evoked buried treasure and had little pearls and the beginning of my obsession with lace.
