Rubies And Diamonds In Two Jewelry Auctions…
Coming up in June 2017 are two jewelry auctions to be conducted by Sotheby’s, one in Geneva and one in London. Both include beautiful pieces that combine rubies and diamonds. The selection below are neither historically significant and nor are they designed by jewelers whose names we remember. They are all however, pieces we might enjoy wearing! Do you agree?
A ruby and diamond ring in a bombé design, set in gold with calibré-cut rubies and pavé set brilliant-cut diamonds. The price estimate for this ring, to be auctioned on 1 June 2017 in Geneva is 1,800 — 2,500 CHF.
Next up is another ruby and diamond ring, this one by Van Cleef & Arpels, set with a cabochon ruby framed with brilliant-cut diamonds accented with calibré-cut rubies and brilliant-cut diamonds. The price estimate for this ring, to be auctioned on 1 June 2017 in Geneva is 10,000 — 15,000 CHF.
With that bijou reference so particular to auction-speak provenance, “Property of a Lady”, this next piece, a ruby, sapphire and diamond brooch, is set in gold with circular-cut rubies and sapphires accented with brilliant-cut diamonds in a floral design. Its price is estimated at 1,500 — 2,000 CHF.
On 7 June in London this c.1950s ruby and diamond bracelet, is estimated to reach a price of 32,000 — 42,000 GBP. The geometric design is set with oval rubies and brilliant-cut and baguette diamonds, length approximately 160mm.
Finally, two pendants, each of cluster design, the oval rubies mounted within frames of cushion-shaped and rose diamonds, to be auctioned by Sotheby’s on 7th June in London. The estimated price is 6,500 — 9,500 GBP.
