A Ruby Paste And Opal Victorian Engagement Ring

The first of two lovely pieces from Boylerpf Antique and Vintage Jewelry (the second is on the next page) this graceful little Victorian ring is beautifully composed of 10K gold, opal and ruby paste. The feature stones are three white cabochon opals with a range of pastel colours and brighter flases of greens, purple and blue. They’re open-back, allowing the light to shine through, and they’re topped with four ruby paste gems.

Have you ever wondered what paste is? It’s leaded glass, cut in facets to resemble precious stones. Paste jewelry was very popular in the 18th and 19th century and is still highly collectible.

Both this ring and the bracelet over the page have been sold, but there are plenty more beautiful pieces of jewelry on the Boylerpf website, at very affordable prices.
